Two insurance companies for a trucking company paid $2.3 million to settle a wrongful death claim brought by a man who was struck by telephone pole wires in a freak accident that caused his death.
The deceased, Ronnie Dyson, had stopped his vehicle on the way home to help someone who had run off the highway and had collided with a telephone pole.
The broken pole caused guide wires supporting road signs to hang down over the roadway.
A tractor trailer rig was approaching the area and did not see the wires hanging over the roadway.
The tractor trailer struck the wires and that impact caused the wires to strike Mr. Dyson. He was severally injured by being tossed into the air and subsequently crashing to the ground.
Mr. Dyson's facial features were distorted and he had severe wounds to his arms and legs. He needed a leg brace to assist him in walking. His ear was completely removed because of infection to his face and head.
The victim incurred hospital and medical bills in excess of $200,000.00.
His wounds caused a skin disease that would not heal and required treatment from infectious disease doctors.
Although he underwent several surgeries to attempt to remove the infected tissue, the disease continued to spread and eat away his flesh.
Mr. Dyson suffered for two years with his injuries before he passed away.
The two insurance companies which insured the owner of the tractor trailer rig paid $2.3 million total to the family of Mr. Dyson.
