The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released the 2007 rollover ratings for SUVs. It appears that new electronic stability control features in SUVs are making it less likely that an equipped SUV will rollover. Electronic stability control, introduced in 1985, automatically applies the brakes of individual wheels to prevent the vehicle from changing directions and keeping the vehicle headed in its intended directions. Most SUVs come equipped with this feature however all vehicles will be required to have this technology in 2012.

The NHTSA ranks the safety of SUVs by stars.

5 stars less 10% risk of rollover
4 stars 10%-20% risk of rollover
3 stars 20% -30% risk of rollover

No SUV ranked 5 stars. To see how they ranked go to www.safecar.gov
